Beginning August 1, 2013 same-sex married couples will have equal protection under law in Minnesota, including the right to claim workers' compensation dependency benefits if a spouse dies in the workplace, and the right to sue for the wrongful death of a spouse ( and related civil claims). Project 515 has provided a helpful synopsis of these and other changes in Minnesota law for same-sex married couples.

Be careful returning to a work site after your shift is over.  If you are injured on a work site and are not there by direction of your employer you may not be covered for workers' compensation benefits if you're injured.

Minnesota workers compensation benefits cover lost wages due to an injured worker's physical limitations. For example, if an injured worker has a back injury and their doctor restricts them from working at their job for 3 weeks while she is recovering, workers' comp would owe them temporary total disability (TTD) for that time period.

TTD benefits are typically calculated based on the injured worker's average weekly wage (AWW) for the 26 weeks leading up to the work injury.  If for instance, in this example if the injured worker had an average weekly wage of $900.00 per week, she would be entitled to 2/3 of that, or $600.00 per week in TTD benefits.  TTD benefits can run up to a maximum of 130 weeks.
